The new Magic Jack Plus is on its way. VocalTec, the parent company of Magic Jack let the cat out of the bag recently at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. According to the company the new product will be available within 90 days. It's expected to retail for $49.95, which will include the new device plus the first year of service.First released in late 2007, MagicJack has become exceedingly popular, with consumers seeking new ways to save money during these difficult economic times. The company has reportedly sold 7 million units to date. Both sales and interest in the product continue to be very strong. But not everyone has been enamored with the device, and even some very interested consumers have put off purchasing the product. One of the biggest reasons for consumer reluctance is that the original product must be connected to a computer with an active Internet connection in order to make or receive calls. Not everyone likes leaving their computer on 24 hours a day 7 days a week, an expense that offsets the savings gained by using the service to some extent. This concern has been addressed with the new version of the device. No Computer NeededWith Magic Jack Plus consumers will now have the option to connect their the device directly to their computer OR directly to their router - no computer required. Competitors such as Vonage and local cable television companies have long offered this type of connection, which eliminates the need for a computer entirely.Use it with a Cell PhoneWith the new MagicJack Plus consumers will also be able to use the product with their cell phone. Cell phone users will be able to use the device to make unlimited local and long distance calls using the company's VoIP network. This is quite an exciting possibility, offering consumers the potential for huge savings and relief from high cell phone bills.According to the company Magic Jack Plus should be available for purchase beginning in May 2011.
